Past projects

Nidderdale National Landscape has long record of delivering successful and impactful projects across the National Landscape.

Recent projects

Tests and Trials: 2020-2021

Nidderdale National Landscape participated in one of Defra’s 44 nationwide Test and Trials programmes. During the project, we  worked with six local farmers to help shape the future of farming in the UK.

Together with our fellow Northern Uplands National Landscapes, North Pennines and Forest of Bowland, we focused on the process involved in producing land management plans for upland farms which will inform the development of the new ELM scheme. More information on the National Landscapes joint ‘Farming for the National’ programme is available on the National Associations of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’s website.

Woodland Opportunity Plan: 2019-2020

Following a generous grant from The Woodland Trust, we created a new Woodland Opportunity Plan for the National Landscape. This plan enables us and our partners to find out more about the current tree cover in the National Landscape. It also helps us prioritise areas for future tree planting. You can view the final plan on our Tree Planting Advice page.

The Wild Watch: 2017-2020

The Wild Watch was Nidderdale’s biggest ever wildlife survey,  gathering information on over 50 species right across the National Landscape. The project was supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.  Find out more about the project.

Upper Nidderdale Landscape Partnership: 2014-2018

This large scale, four year partnership programme supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund worked to conserve and enhance the unique natural and cultural heritage of Upper Nidderdale.  Find out more on the project’s dedicated website: uppernidderdale.org.uk

Nidderdale National Landscape and the First World War: 2014-2017

In 2014 Nidderdale National Landscape, along with local people, volunteers and other organisations, embarked upon a three year  National Lottery Heritage Fund supported First World War Centenary Project. ‘Leeds Pals, Prisoners Of War and the Home Front’ focused on the war’s impact on the Nidderdale landscape and communities. The project also highlighted the captivating story of the Leeds Pals, who were trained in the area.

The project’s website nidderdaleaonbww1.org.uk provides a record of the findings as well as resources and information about those involved in the First World War in Nidderdale National Landscape. You can also search our database for a service man or woman that you have some personal details for and find out more about visiting the area.
