Management plan and annual review
Our 2019-2024 management plan
The management plan for Nidderdale National Landscape is a high-level strategy that provides a framework for action designed to protect the special qualities that make this area one of the UK’s finest landscapes.
Key areas addressed include combating climate change, protecting the landscape, supporting the farming industry and the rural economy, promoting sustainable development, managing natural and cultural services, and encouraging people to enjoy this beautiful area.
Working in partnership
This five year plan is for everyone with an interest in the National Landscape.
To develop the plan, we consulted with local residents and interest groups, Natural England, the Environment Agency and other organisations.
The aims and objectives outlined will be achieved through working in partnership with fellow organisations, community groups, volunteers, residents, farmers, landowners, local businesses, schools and universities.
Our long term vision
Over the next five years we are focusing our work to make significant progress towards our vision that, by 2050, the Nidderdale National Landscape will be:
- A vibrant working landscape where rural communities, land managers and other rural businesses are working collaboratively together to protect natural beauty
- A place where environmental limits are widely respected and concerted effort is being made to reduce carbon emissions while seeking opportunities to increase carbon storage
- Made up of a resilient landscape renowned for its high windswept moors, ancient woodlands, livestock-grazed pasture, flower-rich meadows, historic country houses and parkland filled with veteran trees
- Home to a greater abundance and diversity of wildlife compared to the 2019 State of Nidderdale’s Nature report
- A welcoming destination for people seeking opportunities for recreation
- A place where people can experience tranquility and improve their health and wellbeing
