Northern Upland Chain Local Nature Partnership

Following a nationwide competition in 2012, the Northern Upland Chain Local Nature Partnership was successful in becoming an official Local Nature Partnership (LNP).

It forms part of a network across England alongside 40 other LNPs.

The Northern Upland Chain stretches from Lancashire to the Scottish border covering Nidderdale AONB, Forest of Bowland AONB, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Pennines AONB and Northumberland National Park.

These nationally-designated upland areas form a contiguous chain, broken only by the ‘Tyne gap’. Our Local Nature Partnership bridges this gap and crosses political and landscape designation boundaries in order to achieve benefits for people and nature.

 

Local Nature Partnerships

Local Nature Partnerships (LNPs) are partnerships of a broad range of organisations, businesses and people, charged by government with the task of bring about improvements in their local natural environment in England.

The ambition for LNPs is that they will help their local area to manage the natural environment as a system and to embed its value in local decisions for the benefit of nature, people and the economy.

 

Key themes

The Northern Upland Chain LNP is working collaboratively on six themes:

  • habitat opportunities monitoring
  • Great Upland Forest
  • hay meadow restoration
  • peatlands
  • high nature value farming
  • biodiversity offsetting
