Plastic tree shelters protect new trees as they grow, enabling many saplings to survive that would otherwise die due to rabbits, deer and other mammals. However, the plastic they leave behind is polluting our soils and waterways.
We are working in partnership with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) to free trees of their plastic, through the Tubex tree shelter collection and recycling programme.
Local teams of volunteers will work with landowners to remove, sort and collect the tree guards into bulk bags. Each bulk bag can hold 350-400 1.2m tree shelters
These can then be taken to Skipton in early May for recycling by Tubex into new tree guards and other plastic products, leaving the Nidderdale landscape with less plastic pollution and happy healthy trees growing for everyone’s future.

- Choose a collection method – Nidderdale National Landscape Volunteers or yourself/ friends/ family

- Fill the bulk bags up with your used tree guards – no limit on the number which can be recycled.
