Change to Friends of Nidderdale AONB

Chair of Friends of Nidderdale AONB Heather Garnett has released the following message because of a big change ahead.

As a charity, with your support, we have been in existence for 19 successful years. But since Covid, the challenges have proved very difficult – we are entirely voluntarily run and it has become harder and harder to find new trustees to help us operate effectively, whether that’s our grant scheme, newsletter or events.

After much thought, we approached the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) with a view to pooling our resources. YDMT is a charity very similar to ours which covers both the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale National Landscape (formerly AONB). YDMT has been supporting some great projects in Nidderdale for several years and are keen to do more.

We, as trustees, have therefore decided that the most effective use of donations and support is to close the Friends of Nidderdale AONB charity and ask you to support YDMT instead by signing up to their newsletter. This newsletter will provide you with information about how the area we all love is being protected and how to donate to continue to support Nidderdale. Your money will be put in a special pot for projects within Nidderdale National Landscape.

Michael Devlin, Chief Executive of YDMT said: “We’re very excited to be working more closely with Nidderdale National Landscape to deliver vital work together and would be thrilled for you to sign up to our newsletter and continue to help us support the people, landscape, wildlife of the area.”

Finally, please let me take this opportunity to say a most heartfelt thank you for your support over the years and I hope you will continue to take action to protect such a special area.”
