Watery Wildlife Resource Pack

As part of the Skell Valley Project, we have been working with the National Trust and the Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust to produce the Watery Wildlife Resource Pack. Packed full of educational river based activities, the aim of the pack is to inspire young people to learn more about rivers and the important habitat they provide for wildlife.

This is for parents, teachers and youth leaders to use. It will give you the confidence and knowledge to inspire future generations with guided lesson plans, risk assessments and activities for those in Key Stage 2. The activities can be adapted for Key Stage 1 as well as older children. There are ideas for indoor sessions with activity sheets and creative tasks as well as outdoor activities with river dipping and river art.

Nabil Abbas, Skell Valley Project Manager, said:

“Working with the Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust has been a great opportunity to draw on their expertise and share this resource with schools and local groups. We are excited to launch the Watery Wildlife Resource Pack to give people the confidence to continue this learning on their own and reach out beyond the Skell Valley catchment.”

Download the Watery Wildlife Resource Pack here or borrow a copy from the Ripon Library.

We’d love to see what you get up to so please share your photos with us by tagging the Skell Valley Project on Facebook – @SkellValleyProject. Whether it is your amazing art creations from the drawing or river art idea pages, or the marvellous minibeasts you find river dipping we would love to see them.

For schools and groups: if you would like to book a session with an expert from the Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust then please get in touch with them at [email protected] and ask for more information about their mobile classroom or Rivers2U sessions.
