Washburn Valley Reservoirs
A series of reservoirs nestling in the beautiful landscape of the Washburn Valley provide fantastic opportunities for walking, fishing and canoeing.
Built between 1869 and 1966, Lindley Wood, Swinsty, Fewston and Thruscross reservoirs were constructed to cope with the rapid growth of Bradford and high demand for water. Now the reservoirs provide a beautiful area to visit and a haven for a wildlife.
The reservoirs are owned by Yorkshire Water. Walk routes and podcasts can be downloaded from Yorkshire Water website.
Accessibility: Swinsty Reservoir is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Fewston has good, surfaced paths although some muddy areas and steeper inclines make it more difficult for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
Where: the Washburn Valley covers an area in the south of the AONB between Blubberhouses and Otley. The main A59 trunk road runs right through Blubberhouses and there are free car parks at Fewston, Thruscross and Swinsty Reservoirs.
